This week, we caught up with Kaya, a 13-year-old Fire Tech Camper, who attended our Teen Coding with Python week-long remote learning course last week.
Her mother told us, “Both my kids have loved their camps. I’ve been able to work this week without any disturbance. The tutors and entire Fire Tech team are fantastic – whenever the kids have been struggling the team have been on hand to help them!”
What did you create/make/build/code last week?
“We made and coded loads of quizzes where we coded the information and questions, so it could be filled in by someone else. We created action games and coded some simpler games like rock paper scissors too.”
What’s the most surprising thing you learnt from your teacher this week?
“I think it was making the games, I didn’t realise you could do so many different things on python! I thought you’d have to use other programmes.”
How different is it learning at Fire Tech to learning at school?
“It’s a much smaller class, so if you have any problems you’re not waiting, and the tutor makes it way more interactive and fun. At school it’s set work, at Fire Tech it’s a lot more flexible and you can sometimes choose what you want to learn.”
How do you think the things you have learned at Fire Tech will help you at school?
“At school, we’re starting to learn python and this course has given me a really strong base of how to use it and what I can do with it. This will help me to create more advanced code.”
What do you want to go on to study when they leave school? Has this changed since being at Fire Tech camp?
“I want to go into law, and I know that’s not computing exactly but I know the skills I learnt will be transferable.”
Do you think it’s important for children to learn about technology? Why?
“Yes! I think that all jobs in the future will rely on coding and computing. Coding makes a difference to everyone in the world, it’s helping make things easier for people.”
What would you say to a child/teen who is a tech beginner but is thinking of coming to Fire Tech?
“It’s not too much to handle, it’s a good amount of information and you’ll enjoy it – it’s fun! There are other courses I’ve done with other companies before that are boring, but this is more interactive. They teach you in a way that you’ll remember how it to use in the future.”
Fire Tech’s remote camps have a maximum of eight students to one teacher, are taught live by expert tutors from the UK’s leading universities, and give young people access to world-class technology courses. Discover our remote courses booking now.
