Science Museum Partners with Fire Tech Camp to Offer After School Clubs

Fire Tech Camps and the London Science Museum are offering after school clubs in coding, robotics and computer making this summer term. The courses are held weekly on Wednesdays from 4:15-5:30 for children aged 9-17 starting 26 April 2017 through 5 July 2017.   Jill Hodges, CEO and founder of Fire Tech Camp adds: ” We always looks for inspiring venues for our courses, and London’s landmark to STEM is a perfect fit as we work hard to motivate, encourage and support the next generation of innovators.”

We’ve picked three courses to start. Robotics with Ozobot was an easy choice as it complements the Science Museum’s current Robotics exhibit. This course for 9-12 year olds uses the award-winning Ozobot mini-robots to learn about code, sensors, outputs, mathematics, logic and computational thinking.  Children who sign up for the Kano Computer Adventure course  will learn how to build a computer, develop basic graphic design skills, code basic games in Python, and make music with Sonic Pi.  Students aged 13+ , who want to get deeper into coding, can join Coding Games with Java where they will use Java and the Greenfoot library to learn computer science theory, syntax, and object oriented coding. The interactive, hands on courses are taught by Fire Tech’s team of instructors who come from the top computing programmes in the UK.

Courses are held next to the Wonderlab: The Statoil Gallery,  the Science Museum’s new amazing exploratory science space. The price of the course (£259) includes 10 courses plus an annual family pass to the Wonderlab, and a family ticket to the Robot IMAX feature. Students will also experience special tours of parts of the Science Museum during the course. We hope that families and carers that accompany our students will have a chance to enjoy the museum during the 75 min of the weekly course.

Fire Tech Camp began offering after school courses last year specifically to schools who requested them. We have had more demand so far than we can comfortably supply and we are adding schools cautiously every term to be sure that everything we do continues to meet our own very high standards. This is the first time that we have an after school course that is open to the public and we are sure that there is going to be strong demand.

We are delighted to partner with the Science Museum and we look forward to serving both the local area and the broader London community through these courses.   For information and booking please see: Fire Tech / Science Museum. You can contact us with questions or feedback on
