Meet The Entrepreneur: James Field CEO & Founder of LabGenius

During our recent intensive week-long courses, we interviewed guest experts, who provided students with some extra inspiration during their lunchtimes. All of whom, are working in the machine learning, social media, and data analysis industries.

This interview is with tech entrepreneur James Field, the CEO & Founder of LabGenius – a company with a mission to harness evolution with AI.


James completed an EPSRC-funded Ph.D. at Imperial College London during which he developed a platform for targeted drug delivery using re-engineered protein nanocages. Prior to his Ph.D., he completed a BSc in Biology with Microbiology (1st Class) and an MRes in Systems and Synthetic Biology (Distinction), at Imperial College London.

In 2017, he was awarded the BBSRC Innovator of the Year award for early career impact. He is also a fellow of the prestigious Synthetic Biology Leadership Excellence Accelerator Program (LEAP). In 2018, he was featured on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list for Science & Healthcare. Outside of work, he enjoys time with his two wonderful children, reading science fiction, and drinking loose leaf Earl Grey tea.
