"All the staff were amazing and really helpful. This course really boosted my confidence with computers and video game design. It was really fun and I made a lot of friends I'll be sorry to say goodbye to. Writing the coding was even more fun than playing the games."Christina, Age 10
Have you always wanted to automate your crafting in Minecraft, but not known how? This Experience will help you by showing you how to build a Minecraft Factory to process your resources for you, automatically. We’ll use a number of different Mods that allow us to create fantastic Minecraft Factory Designs.
Ultimate Factory Builder in Minecraft
This course is delivered online and therefore requires you to have a Minecraft account , a capable computer to work on and a broadband internet connection. Most PC/Mac computers from the last 5 years will be fine but you can view our recommended detailed system requirements here.
Break the Bread: A breakdown of ingredients
First, we’re going to break down the ingredients we need to make bread in Minecraft and think about how we will go about finding an automated way to gather them.
The Redstone wheat auto-Farm
Now we’re going to dive into making the first section of the factory with Redstone contraptions. The goal is to be supplied with tons of wheat with a click of a button.
Sorting - Crafting - Automating!
We lay pipes and engines that transport our resources around and allow us to automate the crafting process for bread.
Do you love building complex structures and making automatic Redstone machines? If you have played Minecraft before and want something new and exciting to challenge you or, if you have never played Minecraft but you’re a hands-on learner, then this Experience is for you!
With the help of some awesome mods, the Ultimate Factory Builder experience gives you more tools to build machinery that you won’t find in a normal game of Minecraft. From engines to transport pipes to Quarry diggers, there’s lots to play around with and learn.
During the session, the instructor will demonstrate how to use these tools to Minecraft factory designs into reality (inside Minecraft at least) that take in ingredients and churn out crafted products. Watch items shoot around in pipes, machines craft things automatically and afterwards you can tinker to your heart’s content!
Whilst having fun you’ll be learning key concepts that we use in the computer science world and skills that you can take with you outside the game too!
FireTech Experiences are a new series of short, high interest, fun and engaging tech demonstrations and talks. These are delivered in webinar-style, using Zoom, with the main expert tutor showcasing a new interesting aspect of technology and learning. Apart from Zoom, no other downloads are required.
Is Minecraft educational?
Minecraft itself teaches many skills that can be gained from gaming such as resource management, coordination, strategy etc. However, this Experience uses the language Python to cause things to happen in the Minecraft world and is often seen as a way of encouraging students to learn to program in order to achieve their goals inside Minecraft.
Will I be able to install the Mods needed for the Experience?
The Mods will only work with specific versions of Minecraft, this information will be shared with you so that you know which version of Minecraft you’ll need to use and which versions of the Mods.
Will I be building the factory in the session?
You can build along with the tutor during the session, but as the session is taught webinar-style there may not be the opportunity for the tutor to pause if you are struggling with getting something to work, it may be better to watch through the Experience first and then replicate what you’re shown in your Minecraft world.
What is a Fire Tech Experience?
Fire Tech Experiences are regular, super short, high-interest sessions about the very latest developments in technology on topics you will love. Designed and led by inspiring, enthusiastic experts, Fire Tech Experiences introduce you to new worlds and ideas from the comfort of home.
What if I can’t get the software onto my computer before the Experience happens?
This Experience is mostly taught in a webinar-style so you won’t need to have Minecraft or the Mods downloaded to learn from the session, if you do have them downloaded and want to work along at the same time then that’s okay too, but you may get more benefit from the session by watching closely and then working through the steps afterwards.
