Break the Bread: A breakdown of ingredients

Break the Bread: A breakdown of ingredients

Let’s tap into our problem-solving skills! First, we’re going to break down the ingredients we need to make bread in Minecraft and think about how we will go about finding an automated way to gather them.

The Redstone wheat auto-Farm

The Redstone wheat auto-Farm

Now we’re going to dive into making the first section of the factory with Redstone contraptions. The goal is to be supplied with tons of wheat with a click of a button.

Sorting - Crafting - Automating!

Sorting - Crafting - Automating!

We lay pipes and engines that transport our resources around. From our farm we take produce and sort them into seeds/wheat. The seeds go back to the farm and the wheat is crafted into bread. All we have to do now is click the button and watch our factory work its magic! (Optional: spend some time making our factories look awesome)

Course Overview

Do you love building complex structures and making automatic Redstone machines? If you have played Minecraft before and want something new and exciting to challenge you or, if you have never played Minecraft but you’re a hands-on learner, then this is your course!

With the help of some awesome mods, the Ultimate Factory builder experience gives you more tools to build machinery that you won’t find in a normal game of Minecraft. From engines to transport pipes to Quarry diggers, there’s lots to play around with and learn.

During the session, the instructor will demonstrate how to use these tools to build massive factories that take in ingredients and churn out crafted products. Watch items shoot around in pipes, machines craft things automatically and afterwards you can tinker to your heart’s content!

Whilst having fun you’ll be learning key concepts that we use in the computer science world and skills that you can take with you outside the game too!

This Experience is in the form of an interactive demonstration. The instructor will demonstrate the tools onscreen and take questions throughout. The instructor will provide links to the relevant downloads at the END of the session for students who wish to attempt their own activities afterwards.

FireTech Experiences are a new series of short, high interest, fun and engaging tech demonstrations and talks. These are delivered in webinar style, with the main presenter showcasing a new interesting aspect of technology and learning, and a co-host who is able to take questions from attendees and help respond.

"All the staff were amazing and really helpful. This course really boosted my confidence with computers and video game design. It was really fun and I made a lot of friends I'll be sorry to say goodbye to. Writing the coding was even more fun than playing the games."
