Course Overview

Unleash your inner musician with the Digital Music Production course. Course participants will have the opportunity to work with one of the industry’s leading Digital Audio Workstations (DAW), Ableton Live. Whether you are a budding producer or complete novice, this course enables each person to build on the skills they have already. Fire Tech provides the opportunity for young people to explore some fantastic software and make their own professional music.

With the combination of digital music theory and technology skills, kids finish understanding how music is created and assembled, and know how to do it themselves! We aim for our students to be inspired and create something that is meaningful for them.

At the end of the course, students will publish their work so that the world can hear their achievements! Check out our previous students’ work on Soundcloud.

This is an independent learning course, with a focus on project work. Students will work independently at their own pace through learning materials and assignments, and also have weekly live onscreen tutorials for sharing progress and problem-solving.

There are 5 weekly tutorials, lasting 1 hour each. These tutorials are led by an expert, fully DBS-checked instructor, and you will join a small group of other young learners online, working together in fun and interactive sessions. All sessions are monitored and recorded for safety.

NOTE: You will need to download and install the Ableton Live software ready for the course. This can be done by buying a license here or by downloading the trial software from the Ableton website.
We also strongly recommend that you purchase a keyboard for the course, the one we suggest is here – MacBook users will need an adaptor to plug the keyboard to the computer.

What your child will learn

  • How to use Ableton Live 10
  • Musical structures and techniques for composing an original piece of music
  • How to create their own unique sounds
  • How to record and process their music
  • Basic music theory
  • How to publish their musical creations to Soundcloud
